Founded in 2000 in Eskişehir and later relocating to Istanbul in 2006, the band has always embraced musical exploration. Their lyrics are written in a language of their own creation, belongs to nowhere, and each album takes listeners on a genre-defying journey.
After recording their debut album Ev, they embarked on an extraordinary 1.5 month overland journey from Istanbul to Nepal—traveling by road, train, and playing with local musicians along the way.; Iran, Pakistan, India... Since then, they have performed at major festivals such as Mimi, Popkomm, Babel Med, and Womex etc... and toured across a wide geography, from Brazil to the Arctic Circle, Greece to India...
Following a hiatus in 2018, Gevende is back in 2024—returning to the stage and releasing new music.

Ahmet Kenan Bilgiç (guitar, vocals)
Bilgiç is a founding member of Gevende. As guitarist and vocalist, his eclectic guitar riffs and vocal improvisations have defined Gevende’s signature blend of psychedelic folk and jazz-rock since the band's inception in 2000.
Ömer Öztüyen (viola)
Öztüyen enriches Gevende’s sonic landscape with his viola, adding lyrical, textured layers that bridge traditional folk and experimental jazz. His contributions bring a poetic dimension to the band's arrangements.
Gökçe Gürçay (drums)
Holding down the rhythm section, Gürçay’s dynamic drumming creates the pulsating foundation that supports Gevende’s improvisational journeys. Her responsive style propels the band’s distinctive, shifting rhythms.
Serkan Emre Çiftçi (trumpet)
Serkan Emre Çiftçi lends bold melodic flair to Gevende’s soundscapes with his trumpet. His jazz-inspired flourishes punctuate the group’s folk-rock tapestry, adding expressive brass textures to their performances.
Atakan Kotiloğlu (bass guitar)
Atakan Kotiloğlu has joined Gevende as the band’s bassist, anchoring the sound with electric bass guitar. His role is confirmed by recent concert lineups, such as at the Istanbul Jazz Festival, where he performed on bass with the group on 18 April 2024.
